Our featured guest artist this month is Tobi StoneThe Pacific Northwest Jazz saxophonist is known for her rich resonant tone on tenor saxophone. A life-long pursuit of music has led to touring, composing and recording internationally with Seattle-based Tiptons Sax Quartet and Drums (2002-2007), nationally with Reptet Jazz Septet (2001-2008), performing as a member of The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra (2012-2015), Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra (2001-2005, 2008-2012) and appearing live on KEXP, KNKX, and KING 5. Tobi has shared the stage with such jazz luminaries as Anat Cohen, Branford Marsalis, Dave Brubeck, Kristen Chenowith, Hazel Leach, Meshiya Lake, Terell Stafford, and Wycliffe Gordon. Current projects include, The Tobi Stone Quartet, Ann Reynolds Quintet, The Jumpin J's, and Jean Lenke & Red Roses.
Rosie’s Jazz Jam Guidelines:
Our jazz jam at Rosie’s is meant to be inclusive, supportive, and fun. All skill levels are welcome whether you are a singer or an instrumentalist.
The house band, The Chris Moon Quartet, includes Christine Moon on vocals, Steve Kirk on guitar, Jai Porter on bass and Peter Beeler on drums.
Instrumentalists: should bring their own instruments.
Horns/Woodwinds: A mic will be available for your use.
Guitar/Bass: A small guitar and bass amp will be available.
Singers: will have a mic to use, unless you’d like to use your own.
Participants should arrive with charts of the song(s) they would like the band to accompany them with. This can be in the form of a lead sheet or box chart.
(A lead sheet has chords and melody line. A box chart is simply chords and form structure (iREALPro is a good example of a box chart.)
Format of the jam:
There will be a sign up sheet; first-come, first-served. You will perform one song (two at the band’s discretion). After your performance, you will have the opportunity to sign up again at the bottom of the list to rotate back in. This gives everyone an opportunity to perform at least once.
