Twelve original paintings by Barbara Romain (1948-2024), shown for one evening at the Center for Psychotherapy & Integrative Health during Santa Barbara’s 1st Thursday Art Walk.Romain was a Philadelphia-born, Los Angeles-based painter whose work moved over five decades from oil on canvas to layered acrylic, stencil and hand-lettered text. She called those text paintings “visual music.” The selection runs from the early oil Carnaby Street to Mother Earth, an ochre canvas written over with an elegy for her own mother, alongside Children of the Revolution, Spring Flowers and River Reverie.
The paintings are lent by the Estate of Barbara Romain. Originals are exhibition-only. Numbered Estate Editions (editions of 25, printed at the original size with a Certificate of Authenticity) and prints are available that evening and at barbararomain.com.
