The first Saturday of every month, the door is open. October is Saturday the 3rd, nine to two.We are putting the coffee cart away for one and pouring tea instead. Smith Teas — Peppermint Leaves, Masala Chai and Autumn Leaves — brewing all morning, and on the shelf to take home. October is the month the kettle starts making sense again.
With it, shortbread. We make it with Vanilla Bean Sugar and finish it with a flake of salt after it comes out of the oven, which is the entire argument for finishing salt in a single bite. The recipe card is is yours to take — nothing to fill in, nothing to trade.
This is also the last First Saturday that belongs to fall. In November the room turns over to the holidays and stays that way until January. So this one is roots and woodsmoke and dark sugar, and the holiday gift sets will be out on the table early, if you would rather see them before anyone else is thinking about it.
No RSVP. There never is one. Come at ten or come at half past one.
