"Hello! I am an Alaskan born and raised Athabaskan/Yupik artist that grew up with the unusual blessing of simpler times. My life has been enriched by lessons learned from a subsistence lifestyle on the banks of the Yukon river where my family built a fish camp. We made fish wheels every spring and labored to fill the smoke house during the long summers. We kept busy in the fall putting up fish for our dogs, gathering wood for winter, hunting moose, and picking berries.
Mid-winter we would pack up and head to town where my mother participated in the sprint dog races. These core memories have ingrained in me a deep love and connection to nature, family, my culture, and solitude that resonates in my art.
My art practice is unique in that I am eclectic in my scope of work, making sculptures, paintings, and jewelry. The common theme throughout is the playful character of the pieces I create, and often times incorporating recycled materials. I employ bright colors in my jewelry and paintings, and most often a stylized impressionistic bold brush stroke.
My favorite subjects to paint are the places I went with family and the foods I like to gather (berries, fish, moose, and caribou) and the beautiful flowers my grandmothers
grew.
Thanks for taking the time to read a little about me and my work."
