About this Event
First Friday Family Night: Peruvian Folk Art
Join us for a fun, hands-on workshop inspired by Peruvian folk art and New York City!
You’ll learn about the Peruvian retablo, a small, colorful box filled with hand-sculpted scenes. Retablos began as religious altars, but artists later used them to celebrate everyday life, community, and local traditions.
In this workshop, you’ll create your own mini retablo with a New York twist. Using simple materials like cardboard and air-dry clay, and other craft supplies, you’ll build a small scene inspired by your life and neighborhood.
Bring a piece of your own New York story! You can use personal photos, neighborhood memorabilia, magazine cutouts, ticket stubs, or anything else that feels meaningful to you.
Come create, experiment, and combine Peruvian tradition with your own NYC story!
