First Friday with the Arts is a free, community-centered event held on the first Friday of every month in Downtown Cape Girardeau. Established in 2003, the event brings together local galleries, businesses, restaurants, and organizations to celebrate the arts while encouraging residents and visitors to explore everything downtown has to offer. Many participating locations extend their hours from 5:00–8:00 PM and feature art exhibitions, live music, refreshments, demonstrations, or family-friendly activities. By supporting First Friday, you're not only enjoying an evening of creativity and culture—you’re also helping strengthen the local businesses and organizations that make our community thrive.
Guests are invited to enjoy complimentary refreshments, explore the current exhibition, and meet members of the Visual Arts Cooperative while learning more about their creative process and artwork. Whether you're a longtime art enthusiast or visiting for the first time, First Friday offers a welcoming evening of art, conversation, and community.
