Civic West will host “If a data center knocks: What should West Fargo do?” on Thursday, Sept. 17, 7 p.m. in its monthly Fire Hall Chat series. It will be held at the West Fargo Fire Department, 1201 10th Ave. E.The public is invited to hear panelists representing a range of perspectives on data centers and their potential benefits and drawbacks for local communities. The event will be moderated by Dennis Cooley, director of the NDSU Northern Plains Ethics Institute. West Fargo Mayor Eric Gjerdevig will give closing comments.
This Fire Hall Chat is likely to be one of other activities intended to gather public input on the future of data centers and West Fargo.
At its July 6 meeting, the West Fargo City Commission approved a motion by Mayor Gjerdevig to direct staff to evaluate options for public engagement on the potential development of data centers in West Fargo. The mayor emphasized that no such development was currently under consideration but that the Commission should establish a “community-informed framework” to guide consideration. Staff will come back to the Commission with those recommendations for public input at its meeting August 17.
