Description
Learn the basics of porcelain painting and create holiday ornaments! This 4 week class is open to beginners and advanced painters alike. In each session, Instructor Susan Greathouse will demonstrate the art of porcelain painting, as well as spend individual time with students to teach them her craft. Students will be exposed to a variety of techniques used to embellish their creations to make their ornaments one of a kind!
As students progress through each session, their pieces will be fired in a kiln several times to ensure the mineral pigments used for this art to adhere to the glaze and create permanent heirloom pieces.
Please note that at the end of class, all porcelain pieces will be fired and will take one to two weeks to be ready for pickup. Students will be emailed when their pieces are ready.
Important: Please note that the dates for this class skip one week between the third and last session. The dates of class are as follows:
First Session: Tuesday, October 20th
Second Session: Tuesday, October 27th
Third Session: Tuesday, November 3rd
Last Session: Tuesday, November 17th.
For as long as I can remember, I have been interested in art. As a teenager, I showed my work successfully at the Calgary Stampede and received encouragement to continue developing my artistic abilities. I paint on both porcelain and glass and enjoy the many challenges that come with painting and firing in this medium. I really enjoy painting most subjects but especially love to paint cats, and multiple petal flowers such as peonies and hydrangeas. Since coming to live in Corpus Christi, I have painted many more nautical themes.
I have taught numerous seminars and workshops in both Canada and the United States, and I am an active member in numerous china painting organizations at the local, state and international level. I am currently the President of China Painting Teachers of Texas and the Corpus Christi, Highlights Porcelain Club, am on the executive of the State Federation of Porcelain Art Clubs of Texas, and Past President of the Porcelain Artists of Canada. My work has been published in a number of national and international magazines, and my porcelain and glass art works can be found in private collections in Canada, the United States, England and Europe.
