About this Event
"Around the Table" is the second event in the Westfield Diversity Coalition's Finding Common Ground community conversation series. This time, we're inviting our neighbors to bring a dish and a story that means something to you. It might be a family recipe passed down through generations, a dish that reminds you of home, something you make every holiday, or something you make to welcome a neighbor to your street. Whatever it is, we want to taste it and hear your memory.
This is a participatory event. Here's how it works:
- When you register, that has meaning for you. We suggest bringing 8-12 servings per adult-sized eater in your group.
- As we get closer to the event, we will be contacting you to share the recipe and a short story or memory with us. We will compile these into a keepsake recipe collection shared with attendees.
- At the event, you will gather with neighbors to share a meal and take part in a facilitated conversation at your table about food, culture, and tradition, discovering the common themes that emerge from our diverse backgrounds.
Eating is a family event. Please feel free to bring your entire family. We understand that some children will choose not to participate in the conversation, but we do welcome adventurous eaters and the memories they want to share. When they are ready to move away from the table, we will have a small play area for those who need it.
Please join us in the Meridian Room. This space is generously provided by SpringHill Suites Indianapolis/Westfield.
