About this Event
Come & join Springfield Lakes Nature Care for our Find a Frog in Frog ID Week event at Habitat Springs in Springfield Lakes. This small spring fed lagoon adjacent to the Greenbank Army Reserve is where we generally see & hear many frogs, from Tylers Tree Frogs to Great Barred frogs and many others. BYO torch or head torch, smart phone or camera. Please wear long sleeved shirts and trousers or insect repellant to avoid mosquito bites. Please wear comfortable enclosed shoes as we may go slightly off the pathway to find frogs.
Please meet at the Habitat Springs sign on the corner of Lakeside Avenue & Coventina Crescent. There is off street parking along Coventina Street & Vesta Close. Please try & park on the bushland side to allow access to residents who live in Coventina Close to leave easily.
Participants will also get an introduction to how to use the Frog ID app to record frog calls. A short talk by Dr. David Manning about frogs will be given to explain their habitat needs, the threats they face and the actions we can all take to care for them and our natural world for the long-term health of our planet.
This is the ninth FrogID Week event that SLNC has participated in. Frog ID Week is held from Friday 6 November to Sunday 15 November 2026! FrogID Week, hosted by the Australian Museum, and is Australia's biggest frog count. Anyone with a smartphone can help record frog calls through the free FrogID app. The app will help you to understand frogs and environmental health around the country. It aims to monitor frogs populations and distributions over time, helping us to understand how frogs and their ecosystems are responding to a changing planet. For the purpose of the walk you can download the app to your smartphone before you attend and familiarise yourself with its features. On the night we will only use one app to record frog calls but participants are welcome to use the app at other locations during the rest of Frog ID Week.
