About this Event
This seminar provides an opportunity to hear from expert health economists and health system specialists on strategies to finance cancer care as part of universal health coverage packages globally.
Cancer is becoming an increasing health burden in low- and middle-income countries where there is a higher chance of late presentation and limited access to preventative strategies, diagnostics, treatment and palliative care. Many low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have invested in maternity care and control of infectious diseases but have yet to include cancer care within their public health sectors. Reliance on international aid from governments or charities has contributed to the fragility of cancer care provision in many LMICs.
How can we ensure that cancer care and treatment is included in the universal health coverage packages that many countries seek to develop? Join us to learn more about the scale of the problem, how cancer financing works, innovative solutions to raise funds for cancer care, and how cancer control systems can be marketed to finance and political leaders.
Moderated by Dr Rachel Hargest, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon and Co-Director of the Global Surgery Policy Unit, our expert panel includes:
- Professor Ajay Aggarwal, Professor of Cancer Services & Systems Research, Kingβs College London
- Professor Rifat Atun, Professor of Global Health Systems, Harvard University
- Dr Ulana Suprun, former Acting Minister of Health, Ukraine
- Dr Robert Yates, Visiting Professor in Practice, London School of Economics & Political Science
Attendees will be able to interact with panellists during a Q&A session, fostering a deeper understanding of cancer care financing.
This seminar is FREE TO ATTEND, in person or online. Light refreshments and snacks will be available for those attending in person. Registration is required.
