About the film
THE HOLLYWOOD MUSIC FESTIVAL
The Hollywood Music Festival was held on the 23rd and 24th May 1970 at Leycett in an area called Hollywood on
the grounds of Ted Askey’s Lower Farm at Finney Green, between Silverdale and Leycett near Newcastle-under-Lyme.
It was the first of the major festivals held inn the summer of 1970 and it was followed by the Isle of Wight Festival.
It featured Mungo Jerry (first performance of “In The Summertime”), the first performance of The Grateful Dead in the UK
and the bands Black Sabbath, Free, Ginger Baker’s Air Force, Traffic, José Feliciano, Quintessence and Family.
The company responsible for the festival was Onsite Ltd, who promptly went bankrupt and were unable to pay the festival
staff. Previously lost behind-the-scenes filming and filming from the crowd bring to life this well-remembered event in our
patch of North Staffordshire. We set the scene with a look at the music scene from Rock’n’Roll through to Northern Soul.
