DIRECTED BY AM JOHAL, JOEY MALBON, AND THE BELOW THE RADAR MEDIA COLLECTIVEPreliminary Notes for a Radical Praxis is a documentary short that brings together Astra Taylor, Matt Hern, Glen Coulthard, Achille Mbembe, Brenna Bhandar, Jodi Dean, Jasbir Puar, Michael Hardt and Alberto Toscano to consider how the entangled and charged conditions of radical thought and material political change are inextricably bound. The film embraces an insurgent orientation, grounded in collective struggle and the refusal to accept politics as usual.

Nadia Shihab is an artist and filmmaker guided by an interest in the subjective, the relational and the intergenerational. She is a 2025 Guggenheim Fellow in Film/Video, an Independent Spirit award-winner, and a Fulbright scholar. Her work has screened in festivals and galleries internationally, including at the Centre Pompidou (Cinema du Réel), Walker Art Center, Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA), DOXA, e-flux Screening Room, Alchemy Film & Video Arts Festival and Cairo International Film Festival, among others. She was raised by immigrant parents from Iraq and Yemen, and is an Assistant Professor in Film in the School for the Contemporary Arts at Simon Fraser University on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations in Vancouver, Canada.
