About this Event
Shchedryk (Carol of the Bells) is a historical feature film directed by Olesia Morgunets-Isaienko (122 minutes), presented in Ukrainian with English subtitles.
At the heart of the story is the world-famous Ukrainian melody Shchedryk, composed by Mykola Leontovych and known internationally as Carol of the Bells — a melody familiar to millions around the world, but whose Ukrainian origins are still not widely known.
The film follows the intertwined lives of Ukrainian, Polish, Jewish and Russian characters during the turbulent years of the 20th century, shaped by Soviet repression, Nazi occupation and war. Through the experiences of families and children, the film explores how dignity, compassion and human warmth can survive even in the most difficult circumstances.
This special screening is part of the International Ukrainian Film Marathon for Children's Day, bringing Ukrainian stories to audiences around the world and drawing attention to the experiences of children affected by war.

The International Ukrainian Film Marathon for Children's Day is initiated by KRYLA Culture CIC and Watch Ukrainian! Association, with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ministry of Culture of Ukraine and MHP-Hromadi Charitable Foundation.

В основі назви фільму — всесвітньо відома українська мелодія «Щедрик» композитора Миколи Леонтовича, яка під назвою Carol of the Bells стала одним із найвідоміших різдвяних творів у світі.
Фільм розповідає про переплетення доль українських, польських, єврейських та російських персонажів у драматичні роки ХХ століття — часи радянських репресій, нацистської окупації та війни. Через історії родин і дітей стрічка показує, як навіть у найважчих обставинах можна зберегти гідність, співчуття, людяність і тепло.
Цей спеціальний показ відбувається в межах Міжнародного кіномарафону українських фільмів до Дня дитини, покликаного знайомити світову аудиторію з українським кіно та привертати увагу до досвіду дітей, які постраждали від війни.
