About this Event
Prof Radan Slavic says about his talk :-
At the Optoelectronics Research Centre at the University of Southampton, we are conducting research across a range of exciting, cutting-edge fields. In this talk, I will focus on two key areas. The first is fibre optics, where I will introduce a completely new type of optical fibre that guides light through air rather than glass, making it far superior to the fibres that have dominated optical communications for the past four decades. The second is the field of silicon photonics, where highly specialised fabrication technologies originally developed for electronics are used to create integrated circuits through which light propagates through the semiconductor material rather than electrons. These devices have applications ranging from optical communications to healthcare.
