Explore fiber blending on a drum carder or blending board and learn art yarn spinning techniques at our new studio location near downtown Ashland, VA! Whether you are new to fiber preparation and/or spinning or have experience with a spinning wheel, these sessions are designed to be relaxing and creative explorations. You'll watch a demonstration of how a drum carder and blending board works to create different types of wool fiber preparations and then, in the second half of the session, how to create art yarn on a spinning wheel, including corespinning and coil- and spiral-plying techniques. Due to the equipment involved, these sessions are for adults ages 18 and up only.
All materials are included and each attendee will have up to 25 minutes to play on a drum carder or a blending board, where you will be able to combine wool with a selection of silks, bamboo, angelina, and wool locks. Create either an art batt on the drum carder or use a blending board to create an art batt, rolags, or pulled roving (~2 oz fiber) that can be used for spinning. Batts can also be saved for needle or wet felting projects.
