Learn to craft stunning, tactile festive holiday greeting cards by combining fabric painting and free-motion machine embroidery. This hands-on course guides you through the process of translating the architectural charm of festive, decorated doorways into stitched textile art. Perfect for makers looking to blend multimedia techniques into unique, keepsake greetings. You will learn Design Mapping: Transferring an architectural doorway sketch onto a fabric base layer.
Fabric Painting: Applying watercolour paints to create depth, light, and shadow.
Machine Setup: Dropping feed dogs and selecting needles for free-motion stitching on mixed media.
Stitch Sketching: Drawing with thread to define doors, brickwork, and intricate holiday wreaths.
Card Assembly: Mounting finished textile pieces securely onto heavy cardstock without warping.

In addition, you could scan the finished product and turn it into a Christmas Card for everyone for the year.
You will need a sewing machine with drop feed dogs, fabrics and basic sewing supplies. Detailed requirements will be emailed to you in advance of the class.
Kathy has been passionate about crafts from a young age, starting with card-making before learning to crochet and sew. She later developed her skills through college courses, achieving City & Guilds qualifications in patchwork, quilting, and embroidery, as well as an OCN Diploma in Textiles.
Inspired by flowers and foliage—particularly from her own garden—Kathy creates intricate 3D textile pieces using layered fabrics such as organza, combined with machine stitching. Her work often features beads, wire, stumpwork, and heat techniques.
Kathy teaches a range of techniques, including hand and machine embroidery, goldwork, heat-based methods, and contemporary textile art.
