39ème JAZZ EN TÊTE – 20/24 Octobre 2026
---

Tuesday 20 October, 8 pm
Kenny Garrett "Sounds From The Ancestors"A festival regular since 1990 (when he came with Miles Davis), Kenny Garrett has unquestionably become one of the greatest alto saxophonists in the history of jazz. A guardian of the music's original lineage, with more than 20 albums as a leader and over 230 appearances as a sideman, he has played and recorded with a host of musical icons, among them Art Blakey, Ron Carter, Herbie Hancock, Roy Haynes, Pharoah Sanders and McCoy Tyner. He is at once a spiritual son of John Coltrane and one of the last musicians to have shared the stage with Miles Davis. With "Sounds From The Ancestors", he draws together the many strands of the rich history of jazz, R&B and gospel.

Wednesday 21 October, 8 pm
Nduduzo Makhathini TrioThe charismatic South African pianist Nduduzo Makhathini sees himself as educator, healer and musician all at once. For him a concert is a ritual in which the music echoes personal, family and cultural histories, because music is prophecy. The link between music and shamanism is self-evident to him, and he is clear about his Zulu heritage: "In African cosmology, music holds healing powers." Those therapeutic properties lie at the heart of his practice. His piano playing draws on McCoy Tyner, Abdullah Ibrahim and, of course, his mentor Bheki Mseleku. His latest album, "The Myth We Choose", has just been released on Blue Note.
Marquis Hill BlacktetThe fearless Marquis Hill is one of the most compelling trumpeters on today's scene. His playing is both singular and steeped in the great history of the jazz trumpet: it evokes the sense of space so dear to Miles Davis, the virtuosity of a Clifford Brown or a Freddie Hubbard, and his phrasing carries the groove of Lee Morgan or Donald Byrd. With his new "Blacktet", jazz, hip-hop, R&B and neo-soul all become essential elements of a rich African-American creative heritage. Winner of the Monk Competition in 2014, he was previously presented by Jazz en Tête in 2017. He returns to the festival more inspired than ever, surrounded by a new generation of talent.

Thursday 22 October, 8 pm
Joanne Dolly QuartetSinger, double bassist and flautist, the young Martinican artist Joanne Dolly moves with disarming ease between jazz, soul and Caribbean currents, the song of her double bass dancing with her voice. An admirer of historic figures such as Sarah Vaughan and Carmen McRae as singers, and of Esperanza Spalding as both singer and bassist, she radiates a sunlit individuality. Between incandescent groove and unvarnished poetry, everything with her becomes breath, smile and a force that strikes straight to the heart.
Sachal Vasandani invites Soweto KinchSachal Vasandani is a charismatic singer whose natural cool captivates instantly. A true master of musical storytelling, he makes any love song or fragment of life his own, moving with rare ease between original melodies and daring flights of invention. Like the great crooners, he plays between the timeless charm of jazz and an ethereal pop, in a flow entirely his own. Of his latest album, "Best Life Now", Sachal Vasandani says: "I wanted to make sure this one was danceable, something people could tap their feet to."As for Soweto Kinch, he is one of the most exciting and versatile alto saxophonists on the British jazz and hip-hop scene.

Danny Grissett soloA pianist and composer of rare elegance, Danny Grissett is known for a virtuosity matched by great depth of soul. Born in Los Angeles, he has been a fixture on the international scene for more than twenty-five years. A peerless performer and improviser, his music is praised for its melodic clarity, its impressionistic beauty and its balance of lyricism and precision. With Travelogue, his latest release, he confirms his standing as one of the most distinctive pianists and composers working today. For Jazz en Tête he has agreed to give a solo piano performance, following in the footsteps of other great pianists before him.
Vincent Peirani – François SalqueWhy not play around Bach? With open minds and boundless curiosity, the duo casts new light on the Cantor's art-music repertoire, bringing a fresh approach to the classical canon alongside composers of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. François Salque and Vincent Peirani draw on classical music, jazz and world music, treating Bach as a source of inspiration for composition, interpretation and improvisation alike. Through new pieces written by the duo, Bach's music continues to reveal all its modernity.

Baptiste Herbin – Minino Garay – Los ArregladoresFrance's Baptiste Herbin and Argentina's Minino Garay join forces with Brazilian Leo Montana and Cuban Felipe Cabrera to revisit Latin American songs and jazz standards, celebrating the most varied traditional rhythms: chacarera, cueca, joropo, habanera, bolero, tango, landó, festejo, marinera and even gnawa, all with a bop inflection.
