DETAILS
Burnaby Lake is a 3.11 km² (770‑acre) glacial lake in Burnaby, British Columbia, known for its extensive wetlands, diverse birdlife, and a 10 km trail loop that circles the lake. We will walk as far as our group wants. Dogs must be on leash at all times.
Along with viewing platforms, boardwalks, second growth forest, and mostly flat trails (mainly stroller and mobility aid friendly), the lake is home to at least 70 resident bird species, and visited by over 200 different species annually. Common sightings include great blue herons, bald eagles, kingfishers, osprey, turtles, with the wetlands supporting beavers, and other diverse marsh life.
Burnaby Lake is the central feature of Burnaby Lake Regional Park, located in the heart of Burnaby. Formed about 12,000 years ago by glacial activity, it serves as a major wildlife sanctuary and recreational area.
