About this Event
Frantz Fanon, one of the foremost proponents of decolonial thought, conceptualised the colonial mind and exposed the profound psychological and social traumas experienced by populations dehumanised under Western colonialism. Despite the significance of his contributions, Fanon’s work continues to be largely marginalised within academic curricula. Fifty-five years after his death, Fanon’s urgent call to decolonise our minds—whether as members of oppressed groups or as beneficiaries of oppressive structures—deserves renewed attention across the world. At a time when new forms of colonialism are emerging, threatening both our collective humanity and the planet, and when global movements call for the recognition of the respect of international laws while witnessing genocides and ecocides, reflecting on Fanon’s legacy is both timely and crucial. Such reflection is especially relevant for universities seeking to educate world changers committed to the common good.
This event will include:
- A screening of the film Fanon (2024)
- A public discussion, focusing on Fanon’s influence on research, practice, and pedagogy across disciplines and higher education institutions worldwide.
This event will be held on the 13th of November from 4:30 pm to 7.30 pm, to allow us more time for the discussion, considering the venue opening hours. We will start with a brief introduction at 4.30 pm, while the movie will start at 4.45 pm and we will end all with a discussion involving both scholars and the public.
