In 1804, a monk from the Temple of the Seven Golden Vampires travels to rural Transylvania in search of—you guessed it—COUNT DRACULA! The power of the Seven Golden Vampires is fading, but Dracula agrees to help restore them on the condition that the monk allows him to possess his body in order to escape the castle he’s imprisoned in. A century later, Professor Abraham Van Helsing (PETER CUSHING) is recruited during a lecture on Chinese vampire legends by Hsi Ching (DAVID CHIANG) and his seven kung-fu trained siblings to deal with the ghoulish creatures terrorizing a small rural village in China.
Co-produced by Hammer Film Productions and Shaw Brothers Studio, The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires is oft-maligned for its challenging British-Hong Kong production. While director Roy Ward Baker may dismiss it as a “terrible film”, it’s impossible for fans to ignore the incredible behind-the-scenes talent that worked on it like famed choreographer Lau Kau Leung (TIGER ON THE BEAT) and even an uncredited Chang Cheh (FIVE DEADLY VENOMS).
