About this Event
Please join us to learn about Bowen's Family Systems Theory presented by The Reverend Canon Jacques Hadler, Jr. on November 3rd and 10th, 2026.
Family systems theory is a psychological and therapeutic framework—pioneered by psychiatrist Dr. Murray Bowen—that views a family as an interconnected emotional unit rather than a collection of isolated individuals.
The Reverend Canon Jacques B. Hadler, Jr. is an Episcopal priest, teacher, spiritual director, and consultant whose ministry has been devoted to Christian leadership, congregational vitality, and reconciliation within the Church. Canon Hadler served for many years on the faculties of St. Philip’s Theological School, Kongwa, Tanzania, and the Virginia Theological Seminary. At VTS he directed cross-cultural teaching initiatives and mentored generations of clergy and church leaders. His work included leading internships in the Anglican Church of Tanzania and fostering partnerships that strengthened theological education across the Anglican Communion. Canon Hadler is widely recognized for his expertise in Bowen Family Systems Theory and congregational leadership. After studying Family Systems Theory for more than two decades, he has taught extensively on emotional systems, conflict transformation, clergy wellness, and adaptive leadership. He co-authored an article on initiating a Cross-cultural Colloquy at VTS and the book Reconciling Practices: Listening, Praying and Witnessing in the Midst of Division, a volume exploring faithful Christian engagement amid deep disagreement.
