About this Event
Far more than decoration, Pajanki resemble spider webs and traditionally believed to hold protective powers. Aga will help you to create beautiful ornaments that have hung from ceilings of polish peasant cottages for centuries. This workshop has been designed for families making together, including simpler and more complex activities.
Polish folk art is a rich regionally diverse tradition rooted in rites and cermonies of polish rural life, pre-christian Slavic beliefs and christian practices. It flourished among peasants as functional decoration, protection against misfortune ands expression of identity. Often using readily available materials- straw, wood, clay, wool and feathers- and created collectively by women dutring seasonal gatherings.
Aga Eden is a community artist and workshop facilitator based in Devon. She creates participatory projects exploring folklore, cultural traditions and belonging through making, including founding All Souls’ Day events and leading textile workshops for Quirk Theatre’s YETI project at RAMM.
