Join the HPSGS Department for our Visiting Historian Sarah Carrier @ 1:00pm-2:30pm in the Amory Soisson Center.Sarah Carrier, archivist and librarian at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's Wilson Library, will bring us a collection of original letters written between enslavers and the enslaved on the Hayes Plantation in eastern North Carolina. These letters give us the chance to peer inside the relationships that bound Black and white Southerners together. In this guided exploration we can see the dynamics of mastery and resistance that will challenge our ideas about slavery in the American South, sharpen our powers of observation, and excite us about archival sources and what they can reveal.
Bring your curiosity and leave with an introduction to the skills of archival research as you sharpen your powers of evidence observation.
