About this Event
Calgary Humane Society Fall Camp (CBE & CCSD): November 12th - 13th
Calgary Humane Society Fall Camp is a place where kids connect with animals while learning about the creatures that share our world. Our goal is to provide children with meaningful opportunities to interact with and learn about animals in a fun and engaging environment. Through the guidance of our enthusiastic instructors and encounters with adoptable animals, campers enjoy enriching experiences filled with hands-on animal interactions, exciting activities, and creative crafts. This interactive learning experience helps children develop respect, compassion, and the knowledge needed to provide animals with a lifetime of care.
Campers will learn about animal characteristics, behavior, and proper pet care as well as meet and possibly pet bunnies, cats, dogs, reptiles, birds, and more! Activities are age and developmentally appropriate.
After-care (until 4:30pm) can be added for an additional $20.00 fee upon checkout. We do not offer before-care at this time.

Where does the camp take place?

How is the camp organized?
Camp will be led by a specially trained educator and assistants. Children in grades 1-6 will all be placed in the same group.
All children will need to bring a lunch as well as 2 light snacks and a bottle of water to camp each day. Children will be provided with the opportunity to eat a small snack or enjoy a drink at both mid-morning and mid-afternoon. If your child’s medical condition requires them to eat or drink at certain times please alert our camp staff prior to your child’s camp.
The Calgary Humane Society is NOT a peanut-free facility. However, we do request that parents avoid packing peanut products for the safety of all of our campers. Please also bring appropriate clothing for the weather and closed-toed shoes.
Will my child spend most of the day with animals?
Everything we do at camp is aimed at teaching children about animal care, handling, and welfare. We strive to give our campers an opportunity to interact with several animals each day. However, we are an open-admissions animal shelter which cares for all animals, including some that may be sick, injured, and sometimes aggressive. Our ability to have kids interact with animals relies entirely on the types of animals who are in residence at the time of your child's camp. Our two top priorities are to provide our campers with a safe experience and to prevent our resident animals from any undue stress. Some animals simply cannot handle the attention of a large group of campers and we endeavor to teach the campers to respect the needs of each individual animal. That being said, when a gentle bunny, kid-loving dog, or playful bunch of kittens comes through the shelter, the camp kids are definitely given the opportunity to interact with them. In addition, activities like dog training and animal socializing with guest animal ambassadors are the highlight of the week for many of our campers.
Please note: Activities are age-specific. Animal interaction is dependent upon animal health on a day-to-day basis. We cannot guarantee specified types or amount of animal visits.
