This masterclass will cover:
- Contemporary diagnostic frameworks for heart failure in primary care, aligned with current clinical guidelines
- Pharmacological management of heart failure, including initiation, titration, and optimisation of guideline-directed medical therapy
- The clinical utility and interpretation of key diagnostic investigations, including blood work, ECG, and echocardiography
- Integrating diagnostic findings into evidence-based decision-making, referral, and longitudinal patient management
Speakers:
Dr Carla Plymen
Carla is an enthusiastic educator and patient advocate and has been invited to speak on heart failure nationally and internationally.
She is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist and Heart Failure Specialist. She has led the Heart Failure team at Imperial - Hammersmith & St Marys - since 2016. Dr Plymen is also the North London lead for Heart Failure and works closely with colleagues across London to improve access to specialists and treatment, and equity of care across the region. Dr Plymen leads a geographically extensive, integrated heart failure service covering both acute and community services. She has expertise in diagnosing and managing a wide range of cardiac and heart failure conditions, including conditions relating to inflammation, amyloidosis, pregnancy, sarcoidosis, inherited, cancer therapy and many others.
Dr Kaushik Guha
Kaushik is a Consultant Cardiologist with expertise in Heart Failure and Complex Devices currently practising at Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth. He has been the clinical lead for heart failure services since 2016.
His clinical training enables him to manage all aspects of general cardiology, with a particular focus on heart failure care. He has developed specialist interests in cardiac amyloidosis, cardiac sarcoidosis, and technologies involved in remote monitoring. Beyond initial diagnosis, he provides contemporary, patient-centred ongoing care, recognised by a national Pumping Marvellous Foundation award. He maintains proficiencies in conventional pacing, defibrillators (ICD), and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT).
