In conjunction with PRI in Person 2026, The Externalities Investment Research Network (EIRN), the EIRN Foundation, and The Shareholder Commons (TSC) will bring together investors and other stakeholders for an interactive discussion and brainstorming exercise exploring how investors can better understand—and act on—the financial implications of externalities on their portfolios.
Questions for discussion will include:
· How do externalities affect the financial performance of companies and portfolios differently?
· What recent and upcoming research exists to show the evidence of portfolio financial effects?
· What can investors do to address portfolio-level impacts, and under what circumstances are different actions most appropriate?
The discussion will include insights and contributions to The Shareholder Commons’ System-Level Investing Knowledge Lab, while also providing updates on the portfolio implications of insights produced from the first round of research projects from the Externality Investment Research Network.
The session will be highly participatory, with opportunities to co-create solutions, share experiences, ask questions, and learn from peers under Chatham House rules.
