Step into the studio for an immersive, hands-on exploration of charcoal. Charcoal is one of the most immediate, versatile, and tactile drawing mediums, making it ideal for letting go of perfectionism and embracing intuitive expression. In this workshop, artist Emily Johnson will guide students through dynamic mark-making, building deep contrast, and using erasure and layering to create rich, atmospheric drawings. We will explore continuous-line exercises, gestural warm-ups, and techniques for capturing energy, form, and texture rather than rigid representation.
Designed for all experience levels—from curious beginners to practicing artists wanting to loosen up their style—this class emphasizes the pleasure of the physical process and discovering your authentic visual language in a relaxed, encouraging environment. All materials provided.
