Join us to explore how our local biodiversity, including fungal diversity, are vitally linked to our local waters.
jane tsong will talk about our local waters known as the “hydrodiversity” of the Los Angeles region, revealing surprising possibilities for restoring our local waterways and the unique life they support.
Along the way, we’ll consider how relatively simple, nature-based approaches—by welcoming rain water in our soils and replenishing groundwater—can create the conditions for ecosystems to thrive and long-term carbon sequestration, offering an alternative to expensive, energy-intensive, irrigation engineering solutions for managing water.
About the speaker:
jane tsong is an artist and watershed planner. she has written about local water for LA Creek Freak and worked for seven years as a watershed planner for a government conservancy. She created the public artwork, "no beginning no end/ circle the earth/ blessed water/ blood of life/air help us bless with each breath all creatures of land sea and air/ blessings for the biosolids…", incorporating poetry by Judith Roche, for the Brightwater Wastewater Treatment plant in Seattle. The artwork blesses the water, air, and biosolids treated by the plant before they are released back into the larger world.
