About this Event
Sabin CDC’s new 78-unit affordable multifamily development, Nicole Sandoval, will be heated and cooled by a geothermal ground-source heat pump system. Through drilling 600 feet down below the building, we are able to use the relatively stable temperature of the earth to keep the building cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This system is designed to reduce energy consumption, operating costs, and greenhouse gas emissions while improving long-term comfort and resilience for residents. It also has a significantly longer lifespan than alternative heating and cooling systems such as mini-splits, helping to lower future operating costs.
Come learn from Nicole Sandoval’s development team, geothermal contractors, and project engineers, about the technical elements of this system, the benefits it can provide to the building and its residents, and what funding sources made it possible. The presentation will include a site tour where participants can see where the geothermal bore holes were drilled earlier this summer!
