About this Event
State Parks is planning for site improvements and programming to increase public use and enjoyment of Monument Mesa as part of the Monument Mesa Day Use and Interpretive Area Project.
You’re invited to experience Border Field State Park’s Monument Mesa on October 3, 2026 between 11:00 am - 3:00 pm.
Expect to spend about an hour:
- Touring the site
- Learning about the planning work under way
- Providing feedback to the planning team that will inform the vision for site improvements
Lunch provided to registered participants!
We encourage you to arrive no later than 2:00 pm to allow enough time for all activities before the event ends at 3:00 pm.

NOTE: Monument Mesa is frequently used by Border Patrol to observe the border and shoreline. Border Patrol may be present on the site during this event.
In case of closure of Monument Road due to flooding, State Parks will provide shuttles from the Border Field State Park entrance parking lot to Mounument Mesa, with the last shuttle departing at 2:00pm. Additional information about shuttles, if needed, will be provided to registered participants via email at least one day before the event. Please add [email protected] to your list of contacts to ensure delivery.

Background Information
Monument Mesa has been impacted by a variety of factors, including aging infrastructure and limited access due to flooding. Land transfer and development of the Federal Border Infrastructure Project have altered visitor use patterns and character of the site.
In addition to the planning work underway to enhance Monument Mesa, State Parks is getting ready to start construction on the Resilience, Access and Habitat Restoration Project, which will improve Monument Road and allow year-round access to the park. Once construction starts, public access to Monument Mesa will be closed for approximately one year.
