🌿🐢 Invasive Species Action Month: Surrender, Don’t Release! 🐠🌎📅 Saturday, June 19, 2027
🕛 Noon–3 PM
📍 Dane County Land & Water Resources Department
4318 Robertson Rd, Madison, WI 53714
💚 Sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
June is Invasive Species Action Month, and J&R Aquatic Animal Rescue is bringing an Exotic Pet Surrender Event to Madison!
If you have an exotic pet you can no longer care for, please don't release it into the wild. Releasing fish, reptiles, invertebrates, plants, and other exotic species can harm the animal and may threaten Wisconsin's native wildlife and ecosystems.
Instead, surrender them to us—no questions asked.
🐾 What Can Be Surrendered?
🐠 Fish
🦐 Invertebrates
🐍 Reptiles
🦜 Pet birds
🐹 Small mammals
🌿 Aquatic and terrestrial plants
Our Exotic Pet Surrender Events provide a safe, responsible, and judgment-free alternative to release. They also give the public an opportunity to learn more about responsible pet ownership and invasive species prevention.
Important Information
Same-Day Adoptions: Surrendered animals must first complete a mandatory quarantine and observation period. Same-day placements will not be offered.
Domestic & Farm Animals: We do not accept domestic animals such as dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, or farm animals at these events. Please contact your local humane society for help finding surrender or rehoming options for these animals.
Native Wildlife: We cannot accept Wisconsin native wildlife taken from the wild. Please contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator for assistance.
Out-of-State Animals: Birds, reptiles, and mammals originating outside Wisconsin must have the required Certificate of Veterinary Inspection.
💚 Thank you to the Wisconsin DNR for sponsoring this event and helping us provide a safe alternative to releasing unwanted exotic pets into Wisconsin's environment.
💚 A special thank you to the Upper Sugar River Watershed Association for supporting this event.
