Information about this event:

The Jackson State University Department of Art and Theatre will be hosting an exhibition and silent auction of a variety of artworks from April 11 - April 22, 2022. The event, which is open to the public, will be held in the downtown Jackson State University campus building, at 101 W. Capitol Street.

The exhibition will be open all week for those interested to place bids. The Department will host a closing reception on Thursday April 21st from 5 - 7pm, following which the winners of the silent auction will be contacted.

The auction is connected to the Department of Art and Theatre’s mission to offer students the chance to participate in competitive and professional activities. The funds raised will be used for student resources and contribute to the Department’s ability to offer professional training in traditional and contemporary modes of visual expression. The auction offers those looking to expand their art collection the exciting opportunity to acquire work by both established and emerging artists.

Works will appeal to a broad range of potential bidder’s interests; the art has been produced in a variety of media, including photography, painting, and ceramics. The exhibition presents a large collection of figurative works, ranging in style from realistic to more stylized pieces, while examples of still life and abstract genres of art will also be included in the auction.

The auction is open to the public. We look forward to welcoming the wider Jackson community to this event. For further information, contact: [email protected]

The Silent Auction Process:

- The artworks for auction are displayed in the gallery for participants to inspect

- In front of/next to each item is a “bid sheet” where bidders can place their bid silently

-Bidders will fill out a “bidder number” contact card

- Bidders place their bid anonymously with their bidder number

- Guests have the option to return to their sheets, and up their bid, throughout the week before the closing reception concludes

- There is a “minimum bid" and a "minimum increase requirement” of $5-$100 listed on the bidding sheets

- The winning bid numbers will be matched with the registration cards and the Department will contact winners to facilitate the purchase of work!
