Evidence-Based Teaching & Learning in Math: Train-the-Trainer Workshop
Formerly named Checking for Understanding in Math
Improving Math Performance in Schools: Our Big Opportunity
Effective, evidence-based math instruction largely comes down to three keys: high-quality explicit instruction that ensures students grasp new content, gathering real-time data so teachers can respond to errors and misconceptions as they surface, and Retrieval Practice that makes learning stick. This workshop trains teachers and leaders to do all three well, so they can help more students experience success faster and build joy and confidence in math. We’ll also discuss the critical role that Lesson Preparation plays in making all of this possible before the lesson even begins, by exploring techniques like Exemplar Planning and Planning for Error.
Join the Teach Like a Champion team to prepare to deliver high quality training on Evidence-Based Teaching & Learning in Math. This workshop is designed to deepen math teachers' and leaders' understanding of the science of how students learn, and equip them with tools and techniques that outstanding math teachers use to teach skills and concepts clearly and effectively, and then elicit and respond to evidence of student learning to help all students experience success. This workshop is targeted for teachers and leaders of grades 3–12.
See It In Action: Real Teachers, Real Classrooms

Who Should Attend
Our workshops are a “Train-the-Trainer” model. We prepare instructional leaders and school leadership teams to deliver excellent training on Teach Like a Champion 3.0 techniques. Schools typically send a team of two to five instructional leaders and teachers, alongside district or network-level leadership, in order to have several key team members responsible for turn-keying the work back at their campuses. Your team will become the experts who can sustain these effective practices in your classrooms.
This workshop is targeted for teachers and leaders of grades 3-12. Most schools send:
- District / Network Math Leaders
- Assistant Principals
- Math Department Heads
- Instructional Coaches
- Lead Math Teachers
