About this Event
Winston Way Academy is proud of its strong culture of attendance, underpinned by our belief that every day in school matters. Serving a diverse community with high mobility and levels of disadvantage above national averages, we place attendance at the heart of our school improvement work.
Our success is built on strong relationships with pupils and families. From the moment children join our school, our “Winston Way family” ethos promotes belonging, high expectations, and shared responsibility. Attendance concerns are identified and addressed swiftly through close work between our Attendance Officer, Family Liaison Officer, EWO, pastoral team, and families. Tailored support, Thrive interventions, and regular parent engagement opportunities help remove barriers and establish positive attendance habits.
These approaches have delivered sustained success. Our attendance for 2025-26 was 96.43%, an increase of 1.4 percentage points on the previous year and significantly above the national average of 94.69%. Persistent absence remains exceptionally low at 6.1%, reducing to 4.66% when excluding G-coded absences. Attendance for pupils eligible for FSM was 96.3%, just 0.1% below non-disadvantaged pupils, while SEND attendance reached 94.76%, 1.5 percentage points higher than the previous year.
These outcomes demonstrate our relentless commitment to ensuring every child is present, engaged, and able to thrive.
