FR ( En and Dutch below ) Le 15 octobre débute un nouveau Conseil Européen et nous voulons que le climat et la justice sociale soient une priorité et à l’agenda de ce Conseil. Stoppons le démantèlement du Pacte Vert Européen et des services publics. Au moins 3000 décès ont été attribués aux vagues de chaleur en Belgique, et 35 000 dans toute l’Europe. L’OMS estime qu’une grande partie de ces décès aurait pu être évitée grâce à des mesures axées sur la prévention, la préparation et l’adaptation.
Les sécheresses menacent nos ressources en eau et en nourriture. Les feux de forêt nous étouffent et détruisent nos habitations ainsi que les forêts, qui sont les poumons de la planète. Ce sont là les signes d’un écocide qui se déroule à l’échelle européenne, mais qui touche les populations les plus vulnérables à l’échelle mondiale, et bien plus tôt que ne l’avaient prévu les climatologues.
L’inaction climatique a non seulement un coût humain tragique, mais aussi un coût économique colossal (180 milliards d’euros pour la seule année 2026, voir https://www.euronews.com/business/2026/08/12/europes-scorching-summer-could-cost-eu-economies-180-billion).
Nous sommes la dernière génération capable de ralentir, puis d’enrayer définitivement la hausse continue du réchauffement climatique afin d’empêcher que la Terre ne devienne inhabitable, entraînant des millions, voire des milliards de morts.
Que font le gouvernement belge et l’Union européenne ? Le Pacte vert pour l’Europe, obtenu en 2019 grâce à la mobilisation massive des citoyens et des jeunes, est démantelé pièce par pièce. Le déni, l’inaction et les appels à une « pause climatique » dans la réglementation environnementale sont un scandale.
Au contraire, nous appelons l’UE à lancer un plan d’urgence pour accélérer la mise en œuvre du Pacte vert européen, car son objectif de neutralité carbone est en train de devenir hors de portée. L’Europe doit adhérer au Traité de Non Proliferation des Combustibles Fossiles
De plus, des programmes sociaux essentiels dans les domaines de la santé et de l’éducation sont sabrés au nom de l’austérité (voir https://marsattacks.be/#denonciations), tandis que 800 milliards d’euros seront investis dans un vaste renforcement militaire d’ici 2030.

Let’s put a stop to the dismantling of the European Green Deal and public services. At least 3000 deaths have been attributed to heatwaves in Belgium, and 35,000 across Europe. The WHO estimates that a large proportion of these deaths could have been prevented through measures focused on prevention, preparedness and adaptation.
Droughts are threatening our water and food supplies. Forest fires are suffocating us and destroying our homes as well as the forests, which are the lungs of the planet. These are the signs of an ecocide unfolding on a European scale, but one that is affecting the world’s most vulnerable populations, and much sooner than climate scientists had predicted.
Climate inaction not only has a tragic human cost, but also a colossal economic cost (€180 billion in 2026 alone; see https://www.euronews.com/business/2026/08/12/europes-scorching-summer-could-cost-eu-economies-180-billion).
We are the last generation capable of slowing down, and then permanently halting, the ongoing rise in global warming in order to prevent the Earth from becoming uninhabitable, leading to millions, or even billions, of deaths.
What are the Belgian government and the European Union doing? The European Green Deal, secured in 2019 thanks to massive mobilisation by citizens and young people, is being dismantled piece by piece. Denial, inaction and calls for a ‘climate pause’ in environmental regulation are a scandal.
On the contrary, we call on the EU to launch an emergency plan to accelerate the implementation of the European Green Deal, as its goal of carbon neutrality is slipping out of reach. Europe must sign up to the Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty
Furthermore, essential social programmes in the fields of health and education are being slashed in the name of austerity (see https://marsattacks.be/#denonciations), whilst €800 billion will be invested in a massive military build-up by 2030.

Op 15 oktober begint een nieuwe Europese Raad en wij willen dat het klimaat en sociale rechtvaardigheid een prioriteit vormen en op de agenda van deze Raad staan. Laten we een halt toeroepen aan de afbraak van de Europese Groene Deal en de openbare diensten. In België zijn minstens 3000 sterfgevallen toegeschreven aan de hittegolven, en in heel Europa 35 000. De WHO schat dat een groot deel van deze sterfgevallen had kunnen worden voorkomen door maatregelen gericht op preventie, paraatheid en aanpassing.
Droogtes bedreigen onze water- en voedselvoorraden. Bosbranden verstikken ons en vernietigen onze huizen en de bossen, die de longen van de planeet zijn. Dit zijn de tekenen van een ecocide die zich op Europese schaal voltrekt, maar die wereldwijd de meest kwetsbare bevolkingsgroepen treft, en veel eerder dan klimaatwetenschappers hadden voorspeld.
Het uitblijven van klimaatmaatregelen brengt niet alleen tragische menselijke slachtoffers met zich mee, maar ook enorme economische kosten (180 miljard euro alleen al in het jaar 2026, zie https://www.euronews.com/business/2026/08/12/europes-scorching-summer-could-cost-eu-economies-180-billion).
Wij zijn de laatste generatie die in staat is om de voortdurende opwarming van de aarde te vertragen en vervolgens definitief een halt toe te roepen, om te voorkomen dat de aarde onbewoonbaar wordt, met miljoenen of zelfs miljarden doden tot gevolg.
Wat doen de Belgische regering en de Europese Unie? Het Europees Groen Pact, dat in 2019 tot stand kwam dankzij de massale mobilisatie van burgers en jongeren, wordt stukje bij beetje ontmanteld. Ontkenning, passiviteit en oproepen tot een „klimaatpauze“ in de milieuregelgeving zijn een schandaal.
Integendeel, wij roepen de EU op om een noodplan te lanceren om de uitvoering van het Europese Groene Pact te versnellen, want de doelstelling van koolstofneutraliteit raakt buiten bereik. Europa moet toetreden tot het Verdrag inzake de non-proliferatie van fossiele brandstoffen
Bovendien worden essentiële sociale programma’s op het gebied van gezondheidszorg en onderwijs ingekrompen in naam van de bezuinigingen (zie https://marsattacks.be/#denonciations), terwijl er tegen 2030 800 miljard euro zal worden geïnvesteerd in een grootschalige militaire uitbreiding.
