UAA’s 2026 Ethics Bowl is coming up, and we are looking for participants! The Ethics Bowl, hosted by our Philosophy Department, is an ethics competition where teams discuss contemporary and local ethical issues. The event will be held Saturday, November 7th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, lunch provided. The general topics of this year are as follows:
1. Who should have a say in where data centers are built?
2. Are Flock cameras a violation of the right to privacy?
3. Should cellphones be banned in schools?
4. Should UAA ban the use of Generative AI in coursework?
5. Is there a right to the PFD?
If you or anyone you know is interested in competing in the Ethics Bowl, please attend our upcoming workshops hosted by the Philosophy Club. On Monday, October 19th, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm, Phil Club officers and Dr. Kelly of the philosophy department will be hosting a crash course on ethical frameworks and arguments. On Wednesday, October 28th, from 6 pm to 8 pm, we will be hosting a workshop to discuss and refine your cases for the topics above. These events are completely optional, and you are not required to attend in order to participate in the Ethics Bowl. More information can be found in the link in our bio. If you have any questions, you can reach out to Dr. Kelly at [email protected].
