Rome has inspired composers for centuries, and Eternal Rome: Love, Memory & Empire brings that inspiration vividly to life. Puccini's radiant Capriccio sinfonico opens the program with youthful warmth and operatic flair, followed by Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 with soloist Zach Cheong, music of intimacy, longing, and lyrical beauty.
After intermission, Respighi's towering symphonic poem Pines of Rome unfolds without pause, tracing the Eternal City from playful gardens to ancient catacombs and, finally, to the thunderous march of a Roman legion along the Appian Way. Together, these works create a powerful portrait of Rome as both a place and an idea.
