Esophageal cancer is highly preventable when detected early, particularly when identifying Barrett’s Esophagus, a known precancerous condition.
🧠 Who Should Consider Screening?
You may be eligible if you answer YES to 3 or more of the following:
- Chronic acid reflux / heartburn / GERD
- Male
- Age 50 or older
- White race
- Tobacco use (current or past)
- Obesity
- Family history of Barrett’s Esophagus or esophageal cancer
- Firefighter with 10+ years of service
🚫 You do NOT need screening if:
- You’ve had an upper endoscopy within the last 5 years
- You already carry a diagnosis of Barrett’s Esophagus
