About this Event
ICWA fellow Brett Simpson has spent two years based 200 miles above the Arctic Circle in Tromsø, Norway—the world’s northernmost city and host of the Arctic Council—investigating climate change and the growing environmental, societal and political challenges in the Arctic, one of the earth’s most visibly changing environments. (Read Brett’s dispatches.) She’ll report in Washington about her remarkable writing and join a panel with leading experts Evan Bloom, Marianne Lavelle and Eli Kintisch to discuss the global implications of the latest developments in the Arctic.
Brett’s research took her aboard a research ship examining the effects of climate change on the Arctic Ocean; she reported about Norway’s energy politics and its Sami people preserving their Indigenous culture; and she observed NATO forces training to repel a hypothetical Russian attack, among many other topics.
