Anger. Frustration. Exhaustion. After seeing story after story about rape, child sexual abuse, human trafficking, grooming, and exploitation, it's hard not to wonder what more can be done locally.
Rather than continuing to be angry in isolation, this meeting is an opportunity to bring people together and have an honest conversation about these issues in Hattiesburg and the surrounding area.
This isn't a protest, a political event, or a lecture. It's an opportunity for women and their allies to come together, share concerns, learn from one another, and discuss possible next steps.
Some of the questions for discussion include:
• What issues are we seeing in Hattiesburg and the Pine Belt?• Are there particular locations, trends, or concerns that deserve more attention?• What is happening on local college and university campuses?• What resources and organizations already exist?• What is working, what isn't, and what more can be done?• Are there practical actions our community could take to better prevent sexual violence, exploitation, trafficking, grooming, and abuse?
There is no predetermined agenda and no existing organization behind this effort. The goal of this first gathering is to listen, identify concerns and gaps, understand what's occurring in our community, and explore whether there is interest in continued community action.
Whether you bring professional expertise, lived experience, or simply a desire to make the community safer, your voice is welcome.
