Join Viva! and the artist Stephanie Lane of SPECIESISM.WTF in London on Saturday 17th October 2026 to stand up for the 7 million hens currently trapped in so-called enrichment cages in the UK. These cramped and filthy cages provide each hen with less usable space than an A4 size piece of paper. Typically killed at just 18 months of age, having spent their lives laying 20 to 30 times more eggs than they would naturally lay in the wild, all to keep up with the British public’s demand for 40 million eggs a day.
To help the public understand what this means, women will be entering a cage that will visit several iconic locations around London. Through this striking art installation we can help people understand that it's not ok for humans and it's not ok for hens.
The timing has never been more critical as Defra is still deciding whether to ban cages.
We want dynamic activists to join us in our outreach, to educate the public and ask them to contact their own MPs so that we can stop the cage age together!
