Things feel solid. The self feels solid, the moment feels solid, the trouble we're in feels most solid of all. And yet, upon inspection, experience keeps refusing to hold still. This is what the Buddha pointed to when he taught emptiness: the discovery that what seems fixed is being quietly assembled, moment after moment.
This is a mostly-silent weekend of meditation, lightly guided, with short talks and conversation to open and close each day, and time in between to let the body and breath show us what's here when we stop insisting on solidity.
nico hase comes to this from the early Buddhist tradition; Tasudo Nicole Baden Roshi teaches in the Zen tradition. Two lineages, two ways of pointing to emptiness.
No prior meditation experience required. Come and see for yourself.
COST: The Dharma Center operates on the gift economy and the cost of the daylong is on a two-part sliding scale. The fee that you offer through the registration system ($150, $225, $300, or $375 or scholarship options of $75 or $0) supports our non-profit, which pays the costs of the website, administration, building, etc. In keeping with our 2,600-year-old tradition, the teachers of the retreat are not compensated but rather share the teachings freely. In turn, you are invited into the practice of dana, or generosity, a gift economy system that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. At the end, or at any time during the weekend, you are invited to make a donation to support the teachers in continuing their valuable work. Donations in any amount whatsoever are gratefully received, and the practice of generosity is always elective.
