About:
Both artists are interested in the mythic, and the sense of timelessness that can emerge through our relationship with environments and landscapes. The works consider place as something more than a backdrop — something that can hold presence, agency and a spiritual quality through our perception and experience of it.
The work in Emergence comes from a period of withdrawal, reflection and re-entry into the world. Like a mythic hero’s journey, the works can be understood as emerging from a kind of darkness or underworld, returning with something to offer.
The images become dioramas of inner experience: stages where forms, figures and landscapes emerge through the artistic process. Rather than directing what should appear, Emergence is about getting out of the way and allowing unconscious forces, memories and imagined worlds to take form.
