Come Sing With Us!Curious about barbershop singing? Come experience an evening with Emerald Valley Chorus at one of our special Open House Guest Nights on October 19th and 26th!
Emerald Valley Chorus has been part of SingUnited International (formerly known as Sweet Adelines) for nearly 50 years, and is Lane County’s only treble voiced barbershop chorus. We welcome women and nonbinary singers of all ages and experience levels.
What can I expect at an Open House Guest Night?
Guests are welcome at any of our Monday night rehearsals, but October 19th and 26th will be a little extra special. In addition to experiencing a typical rehearsal, guests will enjoy a performance by Emerald Valley Chorus, sing along with us on some of our regular repertoire, and get the chance to learn and sing a barbershop tag with us. A tag is a short section of a song where four voice parts come together to create those big, ringing chords that make barbershop so much fun to sing.
No barbershop experience is necessary. We welcome singers at all experience levels, from seasoned performers to people who simply love to sing. Barbershop is a wonderful way to strengthen both your ear and your voice as you learn to hear the different parts of a chord and find your place within the harmony. Sheet music will be provided, but you do not need to know how to read music. Listen, give it a try, and sing along!
There is no cost or commitment to attend a Guest Night. If you decide Emerald Valley Chorus is something you’d like to join, we’ll be happy to share more about membership and what comes next.
When should I arrive?
Please plan to arrive around 6:45 p.m. so you can meet our director, Lauren Kahn, and get settled into the part of the chorus where you’ll feel most comfortable and successful.
We rehearse at:
Eugene Faith Center
1410 W 13th Ave
Eugene, OR
Parking and the building entrance are on the 14th Avenue side of the building. Enter through the main doors and walk straight back to the Farmhouse Room, where you’ll find us! We begin with a short warmup at 7:00 PM, take a 10 to 15 minute break around 8:30 PM, and continue singing until 9:30 PM.
Bring some water and wear comfortable shoes. We do spend a lot of time standing, but disability accommodations are available for those who need them.
Can’t stay for the whole rehearsal? That’s okay! We’d still love to have you.
You are welcome to join us on October 19, October 26, or both! And if neither date works for you, guests are welcome at our regular Monday night rehearsals too.
You rehearse at Eugene Faith Center. Is Emerald Valley Chorus faith based?
No. We use the Farmhouse Room at Eugene Faith Center as our rehearsal space, but Emerald Valley Chorus is not affiliated with the church or any religion. We are a chapter of SingUnited International, an organization that began more than 80 years ago when a small group of women decided they wanted to get together with friends and sing. Today, there are chapters around the world.
At our rehearsals, you’ll hear everything from modern songs arranged in four part barbershop harmony to classic barbershop favorites.
You’ve gotta try it!
