About this Event

Join us on Saturday, Nov. 14, to celebrate the grand opening of the Emerald Necklace Mobility Hub at Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area and stay for a community bike ride to Azusa Wilderness Park!

The Mobility Hub marks the first community activation of Los Angeles County's Urban Natureways Initiative, a countywide effort to connect parks, trails, waterways, green spaces, and communities across the County, expand access to nature and active transportation where these opportunities are needed most, and foster partnerships for community programming and long-term stewardship.

The hub offers free e-bike rentals, making it easier for residents to explore Santa Fe Dam, the San Gabriel River Trail, and the larger Emerald Necklace network. It's a new way to get outside, stay active, and explore the San Gabriel Valley's parks, trails, and natural spaces. ActiveSGV operates and programs the hub in partnership with LA County Parks.

Come hear from our partners, see the hub up close, and join us for the ribbon cutting. We'll provide light refreshments and coffee.

Check-in starts at 9:30 a.m. Come early to explore displays highlighting the Emerald Necklace Mobility Hubs and the broader Urban Natureways Initiative. Staff from LA County Parks will be there to share information and answer questions. The program begins at 10 a.m., and the ribbon cutting is at about 10:25 a.m.

Free parking for registered guests! Simply show your Eventbrite confirmation at the park entry kiosk.

STAY FOR THE RIDE

After the ribbon cutting, we will roll out for a community bike ride to Azusa Wilderness Park. We leave the hub at about 10:45 a.m. and return by about 12:30 p.m. The route follows the San Gabriel River Trail and is about 12 miles round trip. We ride at a relaxed pace, so riders of all levels are welcome.

You can join the ride two ways. Reserve a GoSGV e-bike when you register, or bring your own bike.

CHOOSE YOUR TICKET

  • Ribbon cutting only: Join us for the program and ribbon cutting. Please choose this if you are not riding.
  • Ribbon cutting and reserve a GoSGV e-bike: We'll have an e-bike waiting for you at the hub. Limited to 12 riders.
  • Ribbon cutting and bring your own bike: Join the ride on your own bike.

REGISTRATION

All participants must pre-register and confirm attendance. Each person attending, including family members, must register separately.

E-BIKE RESERVATIONS AND CANCELLATION POLICY

GoSGV e-bikes are available to borrow free of charge while supplies last. A valid government-issued photo ID is required to borrow an e-bike and will be held for the duration of the event. IDs are returned at the end of the ride. Accepted IDs include a driver's license, state ID, passport, or passport card.

IMPORTANT: If you reserve an e-bike and can no longer attend, you must cancel your reservation as soon as possible. This allows us to offer the e-bike to another participant.

If you don't cancel and don't show up, we'll record it as a no-show, which may affect your ability to reserve an e-bike at future events.

Please be considerate of other participants and only reserve an e-bike if you plan to attend.

WHAT TO BRING

Bring a functional bicycle if you are riding your own, a water bottle, and a helmet. Helmets are required for riders under 18. Bicycles with training wheels are not permitted.

IMPORTANT POLICIES

All riders must sign a waiver the morning of the event. Scan the QR code at check-in to sign. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who must also sign the waiver.

HEAT POLICY

Participant safety is our top priority. Please bring a water bottle and stay hydrated before, during, and after the ride. We also encourage participants to get enough sleep the night before, eat a healthy breakfast, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and apply sunscreen. If high temperatures or other extreme weather conditions are expected, we may adjust the ride route, distance, start time, or duration to reduce heat exposure. We will notify participants at least 24 hours in advance if we modify, postpone, or cancel the ride.

RAIN POLICY

If rain is in the forecast, we will notify participants at least 24 hours in advance if the ride is postponed or canceled.

WAITLIST POLICY

If you are on the waitlist, you will have 24 hours after receiving an Eventbrite notification to register before it is offered to the next person on the waitlist. Receiving a notification that a space has opened up does not reserve or guarantee your spot. Registration is first come, first served, and your spot is only confirmed once you successfully register through Eventbrite. Availability may change during the 24-hour window.

GETTING THERE

The Mobility Hub is next to the Santa Fe Dam Nature Center, about half a mile inside Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area. Look for the green Emerald Necklace Mobility Hub sign on the shipping container.

Bringing your own bike? Park at the lakeside parking and ride over. Parking by the Nature Center is limited and we expect it to fill up quickly, so riding in from the lake leaves those spaces for guests who need them. From the lakeside parking, ride east on the park road along the lake toward the entry kiosk. Then follow the main park road north and the signs to the Nature Center. There is no bike lane, so riders share the park roads with cars. The hub is just under 1 mile away, or about a 5-minute ride.

If you are driving and not riding, enter the park from Arrow Highway. Show your Eventbrite confirmation at the entry kiosk to drive in at no charge. Then follow the main park road and the signs to the Nature Center, and park in the lot there. If that lot is full, use the lakeside parking. From there, the hub is about a 20-minute walk.

If you are biking or walking in from the San Gabriel River Trail, the Nature Center sits right along the trail, so you can come straight to the hub. There is no entry fee for people biking or walking in.

Restrooms at the Santa Fe Dam Nature Center are open during the event.

ACCESSIBILITY

If you need accommodations to attend, please contact us at [email protected] by Friday, Nov. 6.

This event is presented by ActiveSGV, County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, the Rivers and Mountains Conservancy, and the San Gabriel Valley Conservation Corps.

The partnership reflects the Urban Natureways approach of bringing together public agencies, community organizations, and workforce partners to activate, program, and steward connected parks, trails, and green spaces.
