Embracing the Mind, Embracing the World:
A Daylong Retreat with Dave Smith
Sunday, November 15 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. IN PERSON
The world has always been complicated. With rapid technology, algorithms and polarization, it is easy to fall into reactive habits and fatigue. In times of disruption, we are often reminded of the ironic phrase, “may you live in interesting times.” In eras of anxiety and division, we also have a choice: train the mind for stability, or fall into reactivity and overwhelm.
In mindfulness practice, we do not turn away from reality. Instead, we cultivate goodwill and a grounded curiosity that helps us relate to uncertainty. Rather than seeking refuge in rigid views, we use mindfulness and emotional intelligence to navigate tough conditions with equanimity. The Dharma offers practical tools and perspectives to cultivate the bright side of the mind while building a life worth living.
During this daylong program, we will explore practices and frameworks designed to support this work for ourselves, in our relationships and in our communities. The day will include guided practices, dharma reflections, periods of silent practice, walking meditation, and small group discussions.
Anyone interested in the topic is welcome to attend.
COST: The cost of the daylong is on a two-part sliding scale. The registration fee is paid entirely to Durango Dharma Center and does not go to the teacher. Your registration fee ($50, $70, $89 or $108, with scholarship options of $25 or $0) supports our nonprofit and helps cover the costs of our building, utilities, website, administration and, when applicable, the teacher’s travel expenses.
Teacher support is separate from registration. Teachers receive direct donations offered by students at or after the retreat in cash, by check or electronically.
DATE: Sunday, November 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
LOCATION: Durango Dharma Center, 1800 East Third Avenue, Suite 109 in Durango.
QUESTIONS: If you have questions, please reach out to the registrar, Marnie, at [email protected].
