Embedding Employability into the Curriculum Book Launch Seminar ‘The Student’s Guide to Career Planning and Employability’
Higher Education colleagues from London and beyond are invited to join this University of Westminster Centre for Excellence in Teaching Innovation (CETI) open seminar on Embedding Employability into the Curriculum, which will include the London Book Launch of ‘The Student’s Guide to Career Planning and Employability’. This event is open to higher education university or college staff, as well as colleagues from sector bodies or students’ unions.
About the Seminar:
To ensure students’ engagement with skills development activities, increasingly course teams are moving towards embedding employability curriculum. This moves curriculum to go beyond traditional disciplinary content, to take steps to overtly engage students in skills development through access to experiences such as live briefs and work related activities. Ensuring engagement through a hard-line of summative assessment to assess such experiences, courses have innovated in assessment practice far beyond the essay, exam and presentation, toward an array of authentic work-related assessment. This seminar will feature speakers from the University of Westminster and beyond to share best practice in making embedded employability a reality.
About ‘The Student’s Guide to Career Planning and Employability’
During an urgent time to support our students’ graduate employability from both student demand and national policy, Sage are delighted to launch our new handbook for students at the start of the year. ‘The Student’s Guide to Career Planning and Employability’ is for students of all disciplines, aiming to provide an accessible and empowering source of advice and resources to kick start your career planning and future success. The book can also be used as a core reading for employability modules, or as a resource for staff in designing in class materials – where there are even self-audit and reflective activities for students to complete.
The handbook begins with students’ current position, where our initial chapters ask students to explore themselves, introduce skills and understand the flexibility of degrees to different working contexts. The initial chapters highlight the vast opportunities that are available during university study to develop new skills and experiences through work experience, extra-curricular activities and networking. Beyond making the most of opportunities during university, the second half of the book focuses graduate jobs to postgraduate study, including advice on job applications, interviews and assessment centres.
Copies of the book will be available at the launch for purchase by cash.
Please register for your ticket before 5pm on Friday, 27 February 2026 where numbers are limited.
