About this Event

A new arts-based learning SEND network for Lewisham and neighbours.

Wednesday 4th March, 1.45pm-4.00pm at Watergate School

As part of the legacy of the Moving Stories project (Moving Stories: Embedding Dance and Drama in SEND teacher practice - LEAN) Lewisham Education Arts Network is setting this network up to support and develop arts practice for SEND teachers & support staff. This will meet termly to offer both skills training from artists and opportunities for practice-sharing and collaboration. Sessions will focus on drama, dance & visual arts as music is covered by Lewisham Music. The first session will be chaired by Molly Bertrand, Assistant Head, Watergate School.

Topic for first session: Using drama for learning in SEND settings

Alison Hale and Catherine Evans have been developing a Peoplescape Theatre SEND practice for over 15 years. Alison is a trained drama teacher, and Catherine is a practising Speech and Language Therapist. Join them to explore how you might use drama in your own work with children with SEND. Peoplescape Theatre SEND practice is based around the use of accessible participatory story often using multi-sensory props and puppets. They integrate techniques such as shared attention and call and response and aim to create magical experiences that are 'irresistible'. They will explore how they use teacher-in-role within storytelling and how they use it to explore the dilemmas and problems in the stories.

This will be an ideal opportunity for colleagues who didn’t take part in Moving Stories to build skills and for the original project team to share follow-up experience . There will be a charge to cover costs: £45 per person/£80 for two staff (£60/£100 non-Lewisham)
