About this Event

Today's Hanover Square Lunchtime Concert is given by pianist Quoc Nguyen, perforimg Chopin's third Piano Sonata in B minor.

As always admission is free with a retiring collection.

Quoc Nguyen is a Doctoral student at the Royal College of Music, where his supervisors are Dr Sarah Fuchs and Professor Richard Langham Smith. For his research, Quoc aims to explore the different nuances of masculinity as manifested by opera singers who performed in French theatres during the Belle Époque era.

Beside his keen interest in opera and ballet, Quoc is also an active solo and chamber pianist, having previously graduated from the same institution with a Master of Music degree under the tuition of Danny Driver.

Quoc has participated in several national and international piano competitions, the most recent being Premio Schumann International Piano Competition held in Tuscany, Italy in April 2019 where he was a finalist, and a third prize at Ho Chi Minh City 2017 International Piano Competition.

Quoc began his training at HCMC Conservatoire of Music at the age of nine and later completed his Bachelor’s degree with Distinction. He received intensive coaching on chamber music repertoire from British contemporary artist Zoë Martlew and the award-winning Notosquartett from Germany between 2014 and 2017, in addition to having regular lessons with British-Vietnamese pianist Tra Nguyen from 2016 to 2018. Quoc performed regularly at local professional music festivals in Saigon, where he made his début concert with a programme including S. Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2. Recent highlights in London include performances across various venues of the RCM and different churches.

Quoc hopes to use his time at the Royal College of Music to pursue both his pianistic and academic interests, spreading his love for classical music to a wider audience, especially to non-music students.
